As a nonprofit organization, owned and governed by the people we serve, Coos-Curry Electric Cooperative adheres to the same Seven Cooperative Principles as cooperatives across the globe.
The second principle is Democratic Member Control. Our business model is unique by giving you, the member, a voice in the way we run the co-op. Members elect the co-op’s board of directors and have the right to run for a seat on the board.
Your vote and participation help shape the direction of the cooperative.
This year, two seats are open for election: District 1 & 2 (Brookings) and District 3 (Gold Beach). Directors are elected by CCEC members.
To qualify for a director position, a candidate must live in the district he or she seeks to represent, be citizens of the United States, be a member of the cooperative in good standing with an active electric service at his or her principal place of residence for at least one year, be of good moral character and be a registered voter in Oregon.
Additionally, they shall not be an officer, employee, or financially interested in any competing enterprise or utility engaged in the transmission, distribution or sale of energy in Oregon, or any enterprise or agency selling electrical energy to the cooperative, nor have any other interests adverse to those of the cooperative. Cooperative employees or members who were cooperative employees during the previous three years may not apply for open board positions. Successful candidates shall subscribe to and comply with an oath of office upon election.
Interested candidates may acquire a petition at any area office beginning March 22, 2021. The completed petition shall include the name of the member nominee, the district director position being sought by the member nominee, and the printed names, service addresses and signatures of at least 15 qualified members from that district.
Petitions must be returned to CCEC’s Port Orford office by 5:30 p.m. April 15, 2021. Petitions and candidate qualifications will be verified before successful candidates are announced and placed on the ballot.
